Top Tips for Enjoying Legoland with a Toddler and Baby

Diana Simmons

We recently went to Legoland with our 2-year-old son (and 7-month-old baby) and 13-year-old. I wasn't sure how toddler friendly it would be but it ended up being great. They had lots of toddler friendly rides, play areas and shows. I think the perfect age for full enjoyment is 4-6 years old however he had a blast, and we will be going back. Check out my recommendations if you are heading to Legoland with a toddler.

What to do for 2-year-olds and toddlers at Legoland

  • Leverage this guide from Legoland.com What to Do When You're TWO for all the best tips

  • Best Rides with no height limit for 2-year-olds

    • Dino Valley was the perfect area for Cameron. There are 2 rides that were perfect for his age. There also was the opportunity to do a character meet and greet as well as dig for dinos in the sand at the Dino Outpost. He could have stayed in Dino Valley the entire time.

      • DUPLO Little Dino Trail - a trail ride with a fake camera and driving wheel that he could ride. He could sit and move the wheel since it is a controlled ride that he doesn't actually drive, I also brought the baby with me on this ride. Please note they do make you take them out of the baby carrier for safety reasons.

      • Explorer River Quest - a cute boat ride that has lots of Lego Dinos to see. This was Cameron's favorite ride in Dino Valley.

    • Lego City: Deep Sea Adventure

      • We did this ride first when the park first opened and no line. Cameron loved seeing all the fish as well as hitting the interactive screen. I also was able to bring the baby with me on this ride.

    • Skipper School

    • Queen Wateva's Carousel

    • Legoland Express

    • Rides that do not have a height limit but were a little scary for him:

      • Lost Kingdom Adventures

      • Ninjao

  • Play Areas

    • My toddler loved the NINJAGO Training Camp play area and the Hideaways. Both of them I went in with him to help navigate as they were pretty big for him to do 100% on his own.

  • Shows

    • We say the NINJAGO Training show and the Stunt show. Along with the Legoland Parade. I recommend all 3 for your toddler.

Fast Pass

The fast pass was pricy but compared to other theme parks it was worth it. You do not have to wait a certain amount of time before you use it again. You can use it as often as many times as you like as long as the ride is on the Fast Pass list. This saved us TONS of time from waiting in lines all day and we got to ride our favorite rides multiple times.

Where we stayed

We stayed right across the street at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa. I highly recommend staying at the Sheraton or Westin since you can walk to the park from the back entrance. They also have several room options for an extra room. We stayed in the Ponto, Studio Suite. It had a separate bedroom with 2 twin beds a very small living room section and a king side bed. The only negative is that it only has 1 bathroom and the king bed area does not have a door. (P.S they would NOT let us have 2 cribs due to a fire hazard).

Stroller for Navigating Legoland

We brought the Mockingbird Stroller with the Toddler Riding Board. I was worried about navigating the double stroller there, but I probably should have brought it. I originally thought we would go back to the room for a nap but he ended up napping in the bottom on the stroller for an hour. It ended up working out well though.
